Every home needs a refrigerator to keep their foods fresh and when people start going on trips, they bring coolers with them to keep their drinks cold. But when you are in a dormitory, office, apartment, or any room that lacks space, coolers simply won’t make the cut.

Fortunately there are smaller refrigerators that are a bit more affordable, but have enough capabilities to serve anyone looking for a refrigeration solution that fits. Small refrigerators are easy to carry around too and don’t stick out too much so they make fine additions to any basement, rec room, or 2nd room floor.

Different Types of Small Refrigerators

Small refrigerators vary on size with some looking a bit taller to ones that look more like a box, but similar sized refrigerators can vary on the insides as well. One refrigerator can have a freezer with ice trays while another may not, but benefit from having additional store space or optional components that hold certain things like 2-liter bottles etc. There are even chest refrigerators that are more useful for businesses.

Pros and Cons

Just like other small variations of home appliances, small refrigerators are a lot easier to move around and don’t take up too much space. Despite their size, some of the higher-end ones can pretty much rival the functions of standard sized ones making them good extra fridges. They also require less energy to operate as well since the area that needs to be cooled is smaller.

On the downside, the temperatures of most small refrigerators may not be as great as the bigger models so you might end up putting things that don’t require freezing into the freezer just for chilling. Their small sizes can also limit the amount of stuff you can put so avoid using these as a primary fridge.

What to Look for When Buying

Of course this depends solely on what type of refrigerator you are looking for, but to start things off, first figure out how big or small you need the refrigerator to be. Measuring your space available can come in handy since you can ask for the specs of the refrigerator and see if it can fit ahead of time. Those finding a fridge for business use should get the chest refrigerators as there is no door that hinders movement of other employees. Some refrigerators that have extra features like temperature control cost more so you might want to see if you really need these features before buying because you can save if you know what you’ll use it for.

Where to Buy

You can find these smaller refrigerators in the same appliance section as the larger ones. These small refrigerators may be parked in a different area and may not be noticed with all the big ones in the way so look carefully and don’t forget to ask. If selections are limited, you can try looking around online because shipping small refrigerators cost a lot lesser than the standard ones.

Small refrigerators pretty much do what the larger ones can’t in terms of space consumed so you should only think about getting them if you have space problems. They can also be useful for any other room that can use an extra fridge.
